Hi Friends!

If you follow me on Instagram you know I love to post design boards when I’m narrowing down options for decor in our home. Mood boards are probably my favorite thing to do - I’ve been making them since I was kid cutting out magazine pictures and pasting together collages on my bedroom floor. Most of my time in design school was basically spent creating some sort of mood board for each class and lots of visual presentations. You could say Adobe Illustrator and I have been going steady for, like, at least 10 years now.

I’ve been getting quite a few messages asking my advice for decor - “what should I put here?”, “does this match these?”, “what do you think about this paint color?” - and while I absolutely love helping you guys one-on-one, I thought it would be fun to come up with a challenge for you to design a room of your own - from scratch!

Last week, I put up a poll asking which room you’d want to see a design board for and Master Bedroom won by a landslide! My guess is all this extra time spent at home in quarantine has us itching for a room refresh and a place to escape. I fully believe in having a bedroom that feels like a retreat - warm, clean, well designed, clutter free. It’s so important to have a space in your home that helps you to recharge.

So with that, I came up with the #DESIGNAROOMCHALLENGE which has been playing out over on my Instagram stories all week! In case you’ve missed it, I’ll save all the slides to my Highlights there so you can tap through for inspo whenever you want. At the beginning, I picked an anchor piece for the design - a green upholstered bed frame. Each day, everyone voted on their favorite piece from each category until we came up with one complete room design!

The challenge ended yesterday with everyone’s final pick for the “accent piece”. Scroll through for a recap and to see what you guys designed together!

The Anchor Piece

This color is singing to me right now! And you seriously can’t beat this price - especially for a King. I love this piece as the anchor for the design because it can truly go so many different ways depending on the other pieces in the room. It could be modern, masculine, glam, transitional, etc. Love the channel stitch and the low profile. It’s super clean and a great place to start for your bedroom design.

PS: the green check next to the options is my vote for what I would have picked based on all the other items chosen before it. Interestingly enough, you guys still chose different items compared to me in pretty much every category! And none of them match what went in to my final design - so this reveal will be extra fun!

This one got the most votes! A great simple option and the scale is right - I’d frame some neutral patterned paper or something similar to the stock photo to pull out the tan colors in the accent pillow!

Whew. That was fun, right?! I mean, I had fun :) You guys are all great designers - just follow your instincts!

I also threw together a couple quick designs before this all started just to make sure the options I selected for the challenge would look good together in some capacity, no matter what was chosen.
